Finally some sunshine at Acadia

This was the day we have been waiting for. Sunrise was disappointing, we were on top of Cadillac Mountain and got some color but it wasn’t what we were hoping for. After that, it was pure pleasure.

Acadia-0925In the afternoon we went to one of the little harbor towns, which was lots of fun. There were lots of cool shots and we had a great dinner at a local lobster pound.

We went to Bass Harbor lighthouse, which is a cool old lighthouse sitting up on a hill. The bad part is getting a good angle on it requires climbing down on huge rocks. They are rather precarious and require hand and foot climbing. I wanted to do light painting on the lighthouse and use my big flashlight to illuminate the building after dusk. Most of the workshoppers didn’t want to scramble down and find their way out in the dark. Two guys came down with me and it was worth the effort.

To top off the long day, four of us went out to shoot stars and the bright moon. It was a couple days after the full moon but it still was mighty bright. There aren’t too many times when you can see shadows from the moon or get reflections of mountains in the water. We didn’t get back to the hotel until after midnight, it was quite a day.
