Taking photos during the day is fun, but some dramatic photos can be made right after the sun has gone down and into the night. Join professional photographer Loren Fisher as we explore photography in the dark – or what you thought was dark.
You’ll be surprised to learn how much light is in the sky well after sunset and Loren will show you how to make the sky look great, even if it is cloudy, and how the light on buildings looks different as darkness settles in.
We will start with a “classroom” session and then head out and you’ll make pictures in fun Somerville locations. You’ll learn the tricks to getting great photos right after sunset, during the “blue hour” and then once the sky is completely dark.
You will shoot street scenes in town, neon lights, reflections and get cool streaks of car lights. We will do some light painting, where we “paint” light on a building with a flashlight as you photograph the building using a very long exposure. We will be using available light and not using flash.
This is a hands-on workshop and you’ll need a sturdy tripod, a remote shutter release is recommended. Loren will be watching over your shoulder and offering tips and suggestions as you shoot.
