Today was another hot one and I went to a nearby state park that I hadn’t been to before. I hiked about a mile down a trail and there was nothing to photograph. It was pretty much an open field and I could see the next mile was going to be the same, so I headed back to the car. I was hot and kinda tired and didn’t have a picture. So I drove along the D&R Canal and didn’t see anything that struck my fancy. From too many years cruising around looking newspaper feature photos, I know that it is a lot easier to make good photos when I’m not in the car.
So I went to a county park that is fairly large and borders the canal. The sun was setting and the sky was getting some color, so I thought a reflection in the canal would look good. I tried a couple of spots and it just didn’t look good. The breeze that earlier kept the humidity off me suddenly died. Now I was really hot and sweating heavily just standing by my tripod doing nothing. So I got back in my Jeep and thought I got skunked. It doesn’t happen often that I don’t get a decent picture on a sunny day but I thought today was it. I took one last drive through the park and as I went past some lighted tennis courts, I saw a tree silhouetted against what little light was left in the sky. The lights from the tennis court lit up the grass so the foreground wasn’t all black. Another good day.
